Gun Paints

I found a really cool concept while I was browsing through some concept art. I was looking for a fun quick little project to do between my Desert Kit Bash, and my next project, a big dungeon kit. I found this cool gun concept by Matias Hannecke. I decided to create it just like the concept I found below. I modeled the gun in Maya, and also did some baking in Maya. I painted the textures in Photoshop, and rendered them out in Marmosett Toolbag 2.

For fun I also decided to create 2 different variant skins for the gun. For the first variant I got the idea based on a name alone. I thought of the name "Silver Lining" and went from there. As I was painting out the body of the gun and adding some decals it was feeling a little bland. To give it some more detail I decided to give it some metal plating and rivets. I also added some rust to give the gun more character.

For the third gun, I knew I wanted to put a cool shark mouth decal on the sides, inspired by World War 2 airplanes. I started there, and tried to find some other details that make it feel World War 2 inspired. I gathered some reference, looking at the P51 Mustang, and a Bomber Jacket. That is where I got the idea for the number 51 and the row of bombs on the back handle. The name for the gun "Hit the Deck" was a nickname for the P51 Mustang in the war.

I had a lot of fun painting the various paints for the same gun. I was thinking of it as if this was a gun in a shooter game, and would be offering various skins to the player to choose from. This might be a project I revisit and paint another skin or two for. Below is a breakdown of the untextured model and laid out paints and normal maps.
